EXEC.DIRECTOR MADISON HOUSE The Madison House Board of Directors is seeking a motivated, dynamic Executive Director to advance the excellent record of service earned by this organization for the past 40 years. The Executive Director is the Chief Executive and Financial Officer of Madison House, a student run, non-profit -501c3 organization that coordinates University of Virginia (U.Va.) student volunteers, develops student leaders and builds community partnerships. While Madison House volunteers are exclusively U.Va. students, the organization is run independently from U.Va. and is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of students, community members and university affiliated members. Madison House supervises the activities of about 200 student leaders who in turn manage some 3,300 active student volunteers executing and implementing the mission of the organization through 90 agencies to some 17,000 community clients. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operation of Madison House and affiliated programs. Responsibilities include: Supervision and evaluation of staff, maintaining the financial health of the organization, delivery of quality service, efficient administration through positive working relationships and working environments, and providing a challenging educational experience for students in the fields of leadership development and volunteer management. The basic functions are executed through a paid staff that includes an Associate Director, Assistant Director of Programs, Director of Development and Alumni Relations, Director of Communications and an Office Manager. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social service, education, management or a related field required; advanced degree preferred. The Executive Director must have: significant experience in non-profit management, volunteer management, community service, and/or student leadership development; excellent interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills; experience working with, and mentoring college students; the ability to work diligently in a detail-oriented environment; and, proficiency in office software programs. The Executive Director will have a successful track record of working collaboratively with and representing students, staff, boards, donors, alumni associations, community partners, and government officials. In addition, the chosen candidate will have an understanding of the changing dynamics of students and the student body; an understanding and ability to navigate political processes, including local and state government; and, experience with non-profit organizations and/or higher education human services groups which are volunteer based and in a highly student self-governed environment. The ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing needs is required. In addition, experience in fund development, financial management, long-range planning, and facilities management is preferred. This position requires close staff coordination and team-building efforts. This position requires evening and weekend work for Board/committee/student meetings and occasional overnight travel.
