AUDITIONS FOR RENT
Play On! announces open auditions for Jonathan Larson’s multi-award winning musical sensation, Rent. Set in New York’s East Village to a rock beat, the cast includes 5+ men (20s-30s) and 3+ women (teens to 30s). Director, Joncey Boggs will be casting chorus members as well as all principal roles.
Auditions will be held on Monday, November 16 and Tuesday, November 17 starting promptly at 7:00 p.m. Attend either session and arrive early to fill out an audition form.
Please prepare a pop/rock ballad and a one minute monologue and be prepared to move. Auditions will take place at Play On’s Theatre at Ix, 983 Second Street SE, Charlottesville. Performances are March 18 – April 3, 2010. Auditioners younger than 18 years should speak to the director prior to audition night.
Principal Roles include:
Roger Davis - Rock Tenor, 20’s - Struggling musician who discovers he is HIV Positive in a note his girlfriend leaves before committing suicide. Recovering drug addict, brooding and aggressive with a gentle side. Must play guitar
Mark Cohen - Pop Tenor, 20’s - An aspiring Jewish film-maker. Never leaves home without a camera. Roger's best friend and caregiver. Narrates the show.
Benny Coffin III - Baritone, 25+ - He used to live with Mark and Roger, but is now their landlord.
Tom Collins - High Baritone, Late 20’s Early 30’s - Old friend and roommate of Mark and Roger. Computer teacher/philosopher & AIDS activist. Angel's boyfriend. Mature, warm, strong, and open personality.
Angel Schunard - Pop Tenor, 20’s - A street drummer, drag queen, with a heart of gold. He is also HIV positive.
Mimi Marquez - Rock Belt, Late teens - A dancer in a sex show, heroin addict who is HIV Positive. Extremely sexy, optimistic, likeable but with dark secrets.
Maureen Johnson - Rock Belt, 20’s - Mark's drama queen ex-girlfriend. An actress and Joanne's new girlfriend. Young, sexy, quirky & funny.
Joanne Jefferson - Rock Belt, 25+ - A lawyer and Maureen's girlfriend. Smart, mature, dry humor, politically connected.… [more]
